The School of of Marxism Studies was founded in June 2011, formerly known as the Marxist-Leninist Teaching and Research Office, which was established in 1984. In 2006, it was approved to confer master's degree for the second-level discipline of ideological and political education. In 2017, it was approved to confer master's degree for the first-level discipline of Marxist theory. In the fifth round of national discipline evaluations, the Marxist Theory discipline achieved its best results since the establishment of the school. In the 2023 rankings of Marxist Theory disciplines by the third-party evaluation agency Cuaa, the discipline was ranked within the top 30% of universities nationwide, establishing its academic level as one of the high-level disciplines in China.
There are 61 faculty members in the school, including 21 teachers with senior titles, 49 teachers with doctoral degrees, 1 doctoral supervisor and 24 master supervisors. It hosts several national and provincial-level platforms, such as the National Base for Innovation in Metrology Culture and Science Popularization Resources, the Zhejiang Research Center for Xi Jinping Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era (China Jiliang University Research Base), the Zhejiang Research Center for the Theoretical System of Socialism with Chinese Characteristics (China Jiliang University Research Base), the Zhejiang Provincial Base for Social Science Popularization, and the Zhejiang Provincial New-Type Think Tank for Higher Education. It is also a pilot unit for Party-building standardization under the National Standardization Administration and a science popularization education base for the China Metrology and Testing Society. Additionally, the college has established university-level platforms such as the Institute for the History and Culture of Metrology, the Institute of Ideological and Political Education, and the Research Institute of the Dissemination of Marxism in China.
In recent years, teachers of the school have undertaken more than 60 projects, including those funded by the National Social Science Fund, the Ministry of Education’s Humanities and Social Sciences Research Program, and the Zhejiang Provincial Philosophy and Social Science Planning Program. They have received 10 provincial and ministerial-level awards for teaching and research, and more than 30 commendations from provincial and ministerial leaders. Faculty members have published over 200 theoretical articles in prominent newspapers and journals such as "Guangming Daily", "China Education Daily", "Philosophical Research", "Marxist Studies", "Journal of Ideological and Theoretical Education", "Studies in Dialectics of Nature", and "Studies in World Religions". The college has also been approved for two provincial-level first-class courses, established three provincial-level "Famous Teacher" studios for ideological and political education, and has two faculty members recognized as excellent teachers at the provincial level.
The school's grassroots Party building efforts have yielded significant results. Professor Lan Ting, the Party Secretary of the college, was honored with the "Outstanding Party Secretary of 2023" award by the Zhejiang Provincial Party Committee. The college's Party Committee was selected as a model department among provincial universities, with the Party branches of the Modern Chinese History Teaching and Research Section and the Graduate Student Party Branch recognized as exemplary branches. Faculty and student Party members have also received various accolades, including the "Ten Thousand Outstanding Party Members of Zhejiang Province", "Outstanding Communist Party Member in Zhejiang Provincial Universities", and "Outstanding Graduate Student Party Member in Zhejiang Provincial Universities". The college established the "8090 Lecture Team", which has conducted over 100 theoretical lectures, delivering more than 400 hours of Party courses, reaching an audience of over 10,000 people both within and outside the university.
The school adheres to the guidance of Xi Jinping Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era, thoroughly studying and implementing the spirit of the 20th National Congress of the Communist Party of China. It remains committed to the fundamental task of fostering virtue through education, further strengthening the discipline of Marxist theory, intensifying the reform of ideological and political theory courses, enhancing both the quality and effectiveness of these courses, and striving to build itself into a high-level Marxist school with distinctive features.
