The College of Sciences is originated from the Foundation Department and Branch of Basic Sciences Education. In August 2000, it was renamed as the College of Arts and Sciences. In 2003, the College of Sciences was formally established according to the requirements of majors setting. The College of Sciences is one of the oldest colleges in China Jiliang University.


[Disciplines and Specialty Construction]

The College of Science currently offers two primary disciplines: Mathematics and Physics. It includes six secondary disciplines: Applied Mathematics, Computational Mathematics, Operations Research and Control Theory, Probability Theory and Mathematical Statistics, Theoretical Physics, and Condensed Matter Physics. The college offers four undergraduate programs: Mathematics and Applied Mathematics, Data Science and Big Data Technology, Applied Physics, and Acoustics. It also provides master's degree programs in Mathematics, Data Analysis (a joint international program), Electronic Science and Technology, and Electronic Information. The Mathematics discipline is recognized as a B-level first-class discipline in Zhejiang Province, and Applied Mathematics has been a key discipline during the "11th Five-Year Plan" and "12th Five-Year Plan". The Mathematics and Applied Mathematics program is a national first-class program, Applied Physics is a provincial first-class program, Acoustics is a provincial first-class and "13th Five-Year Plan" specialty program, and Data Science and Big Data Technology offers a second bachelor’s degree program.


[Faculty Team]

The college currently has 124 staff members, including 16 professors and 39 associate professors. Among the full-time teaching staff, 52% hold associate professorship or higher professional titles. Of the full-time faculty, 97 have doctoral degrees, accounting for 92% of the total. The college boasts a Humboldt Fellow from Germany, one national-level young talent, one first-tier innovation leader from Zhejiang Province, one first-tier member and two second-tier members of the Zhejiang Province "151 Talent Project," three third-tier members of the same project, two mid-career discipline leaders in Zhejiang Province, two recipients of the Zhejiang Provincial Outstanding Youth Fund, and two scholars ranked among the top 2% of scientists globally.


[Research and Teaching Achievements]

In recent years, faculty members of the college have led 75 projects funded by the National Natural Science Foundation and the Zhejiang Provincial Natural Science Foundation; published 491 papers in top-tier and higher journals, including 110 high-quality papers; and received approximately 45 million RMB in research funding. They have won 1 first-class and 1 second-class award in the Ministry of Education's Natural Science Awards, 1 third-class award in Zhejiang Province's Natural Science Awards, and first, second, and third-class awards in Zhejiang Province's Science and Technology Progress Awards. They have also published 4 books in both Chinese and English. The college has received 1 second-class award for Higher Education Teaching Achievements in Zhejiang Province and 1 first-class award from the Zhejiang Provincial Graduate Education Association. It has undertaken 8 provincial-level teaching reform projects and 3 provincial-level virtual simulation teaching projects. The college boasts 1 national-level first-class course, 10 provincial-level first-class courses, 3 provincial-level exemplary courses in ideological and political education, and 3 provincial-level excellent graduate courses. It has also won 1 first-class, 1 second-class, and 2 third-class awards in the Provincial Young Teachers Teaching Skills Competition, 1 first-class award for outstanding cases in digital education reform in Zhejiang Province, 2 first-class awards and 1 second-class and third-class awards in the Provincial Higher Education Teaching Innovation Competition, and has been recognized as an excellent grassroots teaching organization in the province. Additionally, it has 2 outstanding instructors for the National College Mathematical Modeling Competition, 4 advanced individuals in the Chinese Graduate Mathematical Modeling Competition, 1 excellent instructor for the National College Higher Mathematics Competition, 1 outstanding instructor for the Provincial College Science and Technology Competition, 1 excellent advisor for college student organizations in the province, 1 advanced individual in teaching ethics, 3 advanced individuals in the "Three Education" system of the provincial education system, and 1 outstanding Communist Party member.


[Teaching Platforms]

The college has established the Physics Experiment Teaching Center and the Mathematics Computing Center. The Intelligent Manufacturing Quality Big Data Traceability and Application Laboratory is a provincial key laboratory, while the "Intelligent Manufacturing Big Data and Intelligent Computing" base is a provincial international cooperation innovation base. The Physics Experiment Teaching Center is a Zhejiang Province Experimental Teaching Demonstration Center and includes laboratories for General Physics, Modern Physics, Surface Physics, Magnetism, and Acoustics. The Mathematics Computing Center features the Mathematics Modeling Innovation Practice Base, Data Science Innovation Practice Laboratory, Intelligent Computing and Big Data Processing Laboratory, and Mathematics Modeling Achievement Display and Activity Center.


[Innovative Practice Features]

The college has established the university Mathematics Modeling Guidance Team and the Physics Innovation Competition Guidance Team. Over the years, the mathematics modeling competition guidance team has led students to win more than 2,000 awards at various levels of competitions. Among these, undergraduate students have achieved 1 Special Award, 63 First Prizes, and 124 Second Prizes in the International Mathematics Modeling Competition; 39 First Prizes and 74 Second Prizes in national-level competitions; and a total of 664 provincial-level awards. In 2018, the team won the only Matlab Innovation Award in the national undergraduate mathematics modeling competition, and in 2019, it received the highest global awards: the Special Award and the SIAM Award. The college has ranked first in the province for award-winning results in the National Undergraduate Mathematics Modeling Competition for 12 consecutive years, and is among the top nationwide. In the "Huawei Cup" Chinese Graduate Mathematics Modeling Competition, the team has won the national First Prize "Full Quota Award" for four consecutive years and has received the "Modeling Star" nomination award for three consecutive years. The Physics Innovation Competition Guidance Team has achieved outstanding results in the Zhejiang Province University Physics Science and Technology Innovation Competition, winning 24 First Prizes, 37 Second and Third Prizes over the past three years. In 2021, the team ranked first in the province, and in 2022 and 2023, it also achieved the highest number of First Prizes in the province and received the Provincial Excellent Organization Award.


[Student Achievements]

The college is committed to cultivating innovative and applied talents who possess a solid foundation in mathematics and physics, along with strong application and innovation abilities. These talents are prepared for careers in scientific research, teaching, big data analysis, internet applications, and management in fields such as education, technology, quality inspection, and high-tech industries. The undergraduate admission rate for postgraduate studies remains steady at around 30%, and the employment rate remains above 95%. Students have achieved impressive results in extracurricular scientific and technological competitions. Over the past six years, they have won a total of 668 awards in various national and international competitions, including the "Challenge Cup," mathematics modeling competitions, programming contests, data mining competitions, and physics technology innovation competitions. Among these awards, 204 are national first and second prizes, and 424 are provincial first, second, and third prizes.
