The Liangxin College (Engineering Pilot Class) at China Jiliang University is an honors college established to meet the need for elite education for outstanding undergraduates. It focuses on concentrating top-quality educational resources, setting up comprehensive support mechanisms, and fostering high-quality innovative talents with lasting competitiveness and a global perspective in the field of metrology or related disciplines.
Liangxin College developed from a university pilot class established in 2004. In September 2004, the university selected a group of top freshmen to form three pilot classes, aimed at reforming the teaching and student management systems. The Academic Affairs Office and the Youth League Committee jointly managed these classes, with the Academic Affairs Office responsible for teaching and the Youth League Committee overseeing daily student affairs and the cultivation of comprehensive abilities. In July 2005, the university entrusted the School of Science with managing the pilot classes, completing the handover for the 2004 cohort. In September of the same year, the 2005 cohort was enrolled.
To meet the demand for elite education in the context of mass higher education and to cultivate outstanding talents with the potential to become distinguished alumni, Liangxin College was officially established on April 14, 2006. The college originated from the university's pilot classes and selects students from newly admitted undergraduates through a rigorous selection process. These students are organized into separate classes, managed independently, with custom-designed curricula, and a credit system, guided by professional mentors.
Leveraging the university's top resources, Liangxin College boasts a team of faculty qualified as master's supervisors. Currently, the college has 130 professional mentors and 16 academic advisors, with over 90% holding senior professional titles and more than 80% possessing doctoral degrees.
The college employs a talent cultivation model characterized by a "solid foundation, strong abilities, emphasis on research, integration of disciplines, and broad vision". Each year, about 5% of the top students in science and engineering are selected to enter Liangxin College. In the initial phase (1.5 years), students undergo broad-based training, while in the mid-to-late phase (2.5 years), they receive personalized training under a one-on-one professional mentorship system. Between these two phases, students have the opportunity to change their major based on their interests, abilities, and development needs. They can choose from nationally or provincially recognized specialized programs such as Measurement and Control Technology and Instrumentation, Automation, Optoelectronic Information Science and Engineering, Quality Management Engineering, Mechanical Design, Manufacturing and Automation, Food Quality and Safety, Materials Science and Engineering, Electronic Information Engineering, and Computer Science and Technology.
In recent years, the graduates of Liangxin College have consistently ranked first in the university in terms of employment rate, further education rate, overall satisfaction with their alma mater, recommendation rate, and employer satisfaction, as indicated by the Zhejiang Provincial Survey on College Graduates' Career Development and Education Quality. Over the past three years, more than 75% of graduates pursued further education, placing the college at the forefront among honors colleges in provincial universities. Of these, over 65% were admitted to prestigious institutions both domestically and abroad, including Tsinghua University, Zhejiang University, Beihang University, Beijing Institute of Technology, Tianjin University, Nanjing University, Southeast University, University of Science and Technology of China, Fudan University, Shanghai Jiao Tong University, Tongji University, Chongqing University, Harbin Institute of Technology, as well as international institutions such as the University of Pennsylvania, Duke University, University of Michigan-Ann Arbor, University of Minnesota, New York University, University of Edinburgh, and University College London. Additionally, 90% of graduates have won provincial or higher-level awards for innovation projects or academic competitions.
Students have excelled in major competitions, winning prestigious awards such as the Outstanding Winner and SIAM Prize in the International Mathematical Contest in Modeling (MCM), the only Matlab Innovation Award in the National Undergraduate Mathematical Contest in Modeling, and first prizes in national competitions like the "Internet+", "Challenge Cup," electronic design, intelligent vehicles, smart interconnectivity, research-based aeromodelling, and life sciences. Their strong comprehensive qualities and social engagement are also noteworthy; they have received honors such as the National Scholarship Special Review Award, National University Student Employment and Entrepreneurship Role Model, National Self-Improvement Star, and Top Ten University Students in the province. Several students have participated in the National University Student Cadre Training Program, served as the provincial student union chairperson, university student union president, and head of the university’s youth volunteer corps. Multiple classes have been recognized as National Active Youth League Branches and Champions of Provincial University Youth League Branches. In recent years, the employment rate of students has consistently ranked first in the university, with high professional alignment and competitive salaries in their employment positions.
