The Engineering Training Center (College of Innovation) of China Jiliang University was established in December, 2002. Its predecessor is the internship factory of Hangzhou Metrology School established in 1984. In 2021, it was renamed as Engineering Training Center (College of Innovation).
The Engineering Training Center is currently the deputy director unit of the Engineering Training Branch of the Zhejiang Province Association for Higher Education, and the director unit of the Engineering Training and Teaching Society of Colleges and Universities in East China. It has the first batch of provincial-level teaching teams in Zhejiang Province. It is one of the first units in Zhejiang province to pass the ISO9001 quality system certification for teaching management. And it is the experimental teaching demonstration center in Zhejiang Province. Furthermore, it has won many honorary titles for its excellent work, such as the advanced group of “creating a learning organization and striving to be a knowledge-based worker” which is an unique one for universities in Zhejiang Province, and the advanced group of laboratory work in Zhejiang Province.
Currently, there are 39 faculty members, among which 10 have senior professional titles, 27 have intermediate professional titles, and 23 have master's degree or above. The existing building area of the center is 8,500 ㎡. The center consists of four departments which are office, metalworking practice teaching department, electronic comprehensive teaching department, and innovation practice department. There are 19 functional laboratories including mechanical manufacturing training room, advanced manufacturing training room, electromechanical comprehensive training room, electronic technology training room, rapid prototyping training room, metrology detection training room, etc. There are currently 3 platforms and 1 center: an engineering practice teaching platform focusing on comprehensive teaching of metalworking practice, electronic practice, and electromechanical practice; an innovation workshop training platform focusing on the organization and guidance of students' scientific and technological innovation activities and the cultivation of innovative practice ability; a scientific research service platform mainly serving teachers and students in scientific research processing and cooperative development, and a skills training center mainly providing mechanical and electronic vocational skills training.
The center mainly conducts training in metalworking practice, electronic practice, comprehensive engineering practice, innovative practice ability and vocational skills for students who come from more than 30 majors in engineering, management, science, economics, and medicine (pharmacy) in CJLU. It completes an average of more than 4,800 students of metalworking practice and electronic practice teaching tasks per year. Also, it offers a course "Comprehensive Engineering Practice" for students from more than 10 majors, and 10 elective courses for general education such as "Development and Practice of Creative Robots", "3D Printing and Demonstration of Robot Dogs" for all students. Furthermore, professional practice courses have been developed for postgraduate students since 2018. In addition, the center have won 292 provincial third or above prizes since 2012, including 2 national special prizes, 12 national first prizes, 17 national second prizes, 71nat(ional third prizes and provincial first prizes. Besides, it also provides 6 types of vocational skills training for students inside and outside CJLU, including intermediate vocational skills of Computer Numerical Control (CNC), junior (assistant) engineer of electronic design, national CAD design, 3D modeler, and CNC craftsman.
The center has a good foundation to share teaching resources, and has carried out internships, training and teaching tasks for more than 3,500 students from Zhejiang Sci-Tech University, Zhejiang University of Water Resources and Electric Power, Xingzhi College Zhejiang Normal University, Zhejiang Institute of Economics and Trade and other universities. Furthermore, a student training model integrating industry and university has been developed with Hexagon Measurement Technology (Qingdao) Co., Ltd., Shenzhen JLC Technology Group Co.,Ltd. and other enterprises, which has carried out to improve students' practical ability and employment competitiveness.
By focusing on quality, practice, and innovation, the center aims at cultivating practical and innovative talents, insists on deepening teaching reform, continuously improves the level of engineering training and construction, and strives to become a national-level experimental teaching demonstration center.
