College of Quality and Standardization

The College of Quality and Standardization was officially established in January 2024. Adhering to the university's distinctive focus on "Metrology, Standards, Quality, and Market Regulation," the school aligns closely with the national strategy for high-quality development and industry needs. It implements the directives of documents such as the "Outline for Building a Strong Quality Country" and the "National Standardization Development Outline," actively cultivating high-caliber talent in quality and standardization with a global perspective and innovative capabilities.


[Faculty Team]

The school currently has 63 full-time faculty members, including 10 professors and 24 associate professors. Among them, 80.9% hold doctoral degrees, and 85.7% have practical experience in industry and government. The faculty includes one member of the Ministry of Education's Teaching Steering Committee for Industrial Engineering, one specially appointed expert from the Ministry of Education's Online Training Center for University Teachers, one recipient of a national teaching achievement award, one recipient of the Zhejiang Provincial Outstanding Youth Science Fund, one member of the second tier, and three members of the third tier of Zhejiang Province's "151 Talent Project." The school also employs 43 renowned industry experts and senior corporate executives who are deeply involved in curriculum development and talent training. Additionally, each year, 3-5 young faculty members are seconded to the State Administration for Market Regulation, the National Standardization Administration, the China National Institute of Standardization, and ASTM International in the United States for professional training.


[Programs]

The college offers three undergraduate programs: Quality Management Engineering, Standardization Engineering, and Industrial Engineering. The Standardization Engineering program also provides a second bachelor's degree. The Quality Management Engineering and Standardization Engineering programs are the first of their kind in the country and have consistently ranked first among similar programs nationwide. Quality Management Engineering program is recognized as a national first-class program, a national specialty program, a pilot program under the Ministry of Education's "Excellence in Engineer Education and Training Program", and a key development program in Zhejiang Province. It has been designated as an advantageous program during Zhejiang Province's "12th Five-Year Plan" and a characteristic program during the "13th Five-Year Plan". Standardization Engineering program is also a national first-class program and has been recognized as an advantageous program during Zhejiang Province's "12th Five-Year Plan" and a characteristic program during the "13th Five-Year Plan". Industrial Engineering program is characterized by its focus on international cooperation and expansion. Graduates recommended by the school can pursue a master's degree in Supply Chain Analytics at Rutgers University (ranked 55th globally) without taking the GRE. This program ranks 9th in the U.S. for supply chain management, and graduates can receive a two-year extended work visa after completing the program. Currently, the college has 1,152 undergraduate students and 39 master's students.


The college is equipped with the Zhejiang Province Quality Engineering Experimental Teaching Demonstration Center and the Standardization Engineering Experimental Teaching Center. The Quality Engineering Experimental Teaching Demonstration Center features three enterprise-level production lines for quality control and improvement of typical electromechanical products, providing professional students with practical teaching opportunities. The Standardization Engineering Experimental Teaching Center houses two provincial finance-funded laboratory projects and boasts the first independently developed national standard revision "Process Simulation Practical Teaching Platform". It is the first to create experimental software based on 3D models for the national standard-setting process and has established an industrial standardization virtual experiment platform to help students "perceive standards—participate in practice—independently develop standards".


[Teaching and Research]

In recent years, the faculty of the college has led or participated in the completion of one national second prize for teaching achievements and five provincial-level teaching achievement awards. The school boasts one national first-class course, two national high-quality courses, 12 provincial first-class courses, one provincial demonstration course for curriculum ideology and politics, one key textbook for higher education in Zhejiang Province, and two new-format textbooks in Zhejiang Province. Collectively, more than 30 textbooks and monographs have been published. Over the past five years, the faculty has led 84 national key research and development projects, National Natural Science Foundation projects, and provincial and ministerial projects, alongside 368 industry-sponsored projects. The school has received seven scientific and technological progress awards at the provincial or higher levels, with research funding exceeding 73.8 million yuan. Additionally, the faculty has published 145 papers in SCI, EI, and core Chinese journals, and has been granted 58 invention patents. The faculty has also led or participated in the development of over 200 standards, including six international standards and more than 70 national standards, with the faculty leading four of these initiatives.


[Social Services]

The college is among the first batch of pilot units for standard internationalization in Zhejiang Province and has established several key institutions, including the National Standardization Talent Training Base, the Zhejiang Provincial Collaborative Innovation Center for Quality Testing Technology and Instruments, the Zhejiang Provincial Collaborative Innovation Center for Standardization and Intellectual Property Management, the Zhejiang Provincial Research and Training Base for Sports Standardization, the Standard Innovation (Taizhou) Base, and the China Institute of Standardization Strategy (at the university level). The college actively collaborates with over 30 leading industry enterprises such as Huawei, Geely, PetroChina, CRRC, and Bull Group, as well as more than 10 national and provincial quality inspection institutes and standardization agencies. Faculty members hold positions in over 20 national and provincial standardization technical committees, and more than 10 faculty members serve as expert evaluators for provincial and municipal government quality awards and standard innovation contribution awards. The school also provides talent development and technical services related to quality and standardization to various market supervision bureaus, quality inspection agencies, and enterprises across different levels.


[Discipline Construction]

The college is responsible for the development of two emerging interdisciplinary fields: Quality Science and Engineering and Standardization Engineering. By leveraging primary disciplines such as Mechanical Engineering and Management Science and Engineering, the school cultivates master's students who integrate engineering and management with a focus on quality and standardization. The college leads the National Quality Management Engineering Professional Development Joint Conference and serves as its president. This conference unites all universities across the country that offer quality-related programs, fostering the exchange of best practices and experiences in quality program development and talent cultivation. Additionally, the school serves as the secretariat for the National University Alliance for Standardization, established in November 2019. The alliance consists of 14 universities nationwide that offer Standardization Engineering programs (or similar tracks). Upholding the principles of "unity and mutual trust, equality and mutual benefit, inclusiveness and mutual learning, and cooperation for mutual gain," the alliance organizes the annual National Symposium on Standardization Discipline Development and Professional Talent Training, which has been held four times to date.


[Talent Cultivation]

Under the guidance of the State Administration for Market Regulation, the college has established two student committees focused on standardization: the Student Educational Evaluation Standardization Technical Committee and the Student Digital Economy Services Standardization Technical Committee. Students actively participate in training with international organizations such as ISO, IEC, and ASTM, with a membership registration rate of 65%. 


The college, in collaboration with the China Association for Standardization and the National University Alliance for Standardization, leads the organization of the National University Student Standardization Olympiad. This is the only national competition for university students in the field of quality and standards. Over the past three years, it has attracted more than 5,000 students from over 120 universities across China and the "Belt and Road" international track.


In recent years, students across various majors have participated in over 320 research projects, published more than 100 academic papers, contributed to the development and revision of over 80 standards, and obtained 27 authorized patents. They have also achieved outstanding results in national competitions, winning 13 awards, including national second prizes and provincial first prizes in competitions such as the "Challenge Cup" National College Student Extracurricular Academic Science and Technology Works Competition and the "Internet+" College Students Innovation and Entrepreneurship Competition. Additionally, students have received numerous provincial and national honors, including the National Scholarship Special Review Award, the China College Student Self-improvement Star, National Annual Figure Nominee, and the Zhejiang Province "Top Ten College Students" Nominee Award.


The graduates are highly recognized by society for their quality, consistently exceeding market demand. The rate of students pursuing further studies has remained stable at over 30%, with graduates advancing to prestigious domestic and international institutions such as Zhejiang University, the University of the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, Sun Yat-sen University, The Chinese University of Hong Kong, the University of Washington, and King's College London. Graduates have a wide range of career opportunities across various industries, including government, public institutions, internet, major equipment, new energy, aerospace, healthcare, international trade, modern pharmaceuticals, and agriculture. Specifically, they work in roles such as quality standards supervision and auditing, import and export goods inspection and quarantine, quality planning and design, and standard development and technical services at various levels of market regulation departments, customs, quality certification and consulting agencies, and standardization research institutes. Hundreds of graduates have become senior executives and key figures in their respective organizations.
