A Delegation from the Metrology and Measurement Engineering College (MMEC)Visits Germany and Holland

Apr 27, 2012

From March 27th to April 4th this year, an academic delegation from the Metrology and Measurement Engineering College, which consisted of five professors--Zhang Hongjun, Sue Zhongdi, Liang Guowei, Chi Zuohe and Mao Qianmin--visited the German Federal Physical Technology Institute(PTB), Ilmenau University of Technology, and the National Metrology Institute(NMI) of Holland.

The delegation arrived in Holland on March 27th, visited EUROLOOP Laboratory (which belongs to NMI) and the Chemical Metrology Laboratory of VSL(Van Swinden Laboratorium). EUROLOOP is the largest natural gas solid flow calibration laboratory in Europe, whose device has a maximum diameter up to 30 inches, the flow range is 5-30000m3/h, the maximum pressure is 60Bar, and uncertainty is 0.17% (when the flow rate is 20000m3/h). VSL is a part of NMI, containing most laboratories of NMI. VSL is responsible for the preservation and development of the national basic standards of Holland.

On April 2nd, the delegation visited the German Federal Physical Technology Institute(PTB), and had a meeting with Dr.Stenger, the vice president of PTB, who is in charge of international affairs. Meanwhile, the delegation visited the laboratories of density, gas calorific value, flow velocity, gas flow rate, liquid flow rate, and time frequency measurement.

On April 3rd, the delegation visited Ilmenau University of Technology(IUT). They had a meeting with Professor Thomas Floehlich and Eberhard Manske of the Institute of Process Measurement and Sensor Technology(IPMS), and visited the labs of quality balance, nano-positioning and measuring, and liquid metal flow measurement. The delegation then met with Professor Dr.Inghabil and Peter Kurtz, Dean of the Mechanical Engineering College. Both sides expressed the intent for substantial scientific research cooperation, and communicated initially about the topics and methods of cooperation. At the meeting, Professor Zhang Hongjun presented an academic report titled, "Some Work on Doppler Global Velocimetry." The delegation also visited SIOS Meßtechnik GmbH company, which was started by Professor Gerd Jäger, the former director of IPMS. Professor Zhao Kegong, the former dean of China National Measuring Science Research Institute, provided great assistance with this visit to PTB and IUT, and he also accompanied the delegation to visit IUT.

The delegation's visit to metrology organizations and universities in Germany and Holland has strengthened MMEC’s links with them, deepened mutual understanding, and further promoted the international communication of MMEC.
