From May 10 to 17, 2015, Vice Secretary of China Jiliang University (CJLU), Tao Weihua, led a delegation to visit Anglia Ruskin University (ARU) in United Kingdom (UK) and Dublin Institute of Technology (DIT) in Ireland. The delegation consisted of Yi Ronghua, the dean of College of Economy and Management, Chen Jianguo, deputy director of International Exchanges and Cooperation Division, Wang Xiaojun, deputy director of Science and Technology Division, Cai Hongtao, vice chairman of the Modern Education Center, Liu Jiapeng, the chairman of Department of Economics and Management. The tasks of this visit included the confirmation of the cooperation mode and teaching schedule in the joint program between CJLU and ARU, and the exploration on the potential collaboration with these two universities in the talent cultivation and teacher/student exchanges.
During the visit to ARU of UK, the delegation met three vice principal of the school, Chris Chang in charge of international development, Gary Packham (and the dean of the Business School), Trevor Bolton in charge of partnership cooperation, and other ARU teachers such as Ding Lan, Adams Brown, Wu Yiyong from the international department, Dr Xie Ying from the Business School. Both parties discussed the details of the project management, teaching plan, teacher allocations, cost distribution. The existing problems were clarified and both reached a consensus on the joint program. Then, the delegation visited two campuses of ARU, Chelmsford and Cambridge, got familiar with the teaching facilities, the Bloomberg financial data laboratory, the books and reference area, the dormitory and logistics services, the student union, student counseling Center. Student counseling center director, Caroline Shanahan, introduced the students learning, employment, psychological treatment, financing, sports to the delegation.
ARU located in the east of England is a large and modern comprehensive university. It has more than 25500 students and is one of the universities that have many students in UK. The school has five colleges covering the undergraduate, master and doctoral courses over a very wide range of disciplines such as business and management, education, health and social work, language, law, literature, art, science and engineering.
In DIT of Ireland, the delegation met Ciaran O 'Leary, head of the international affairs office, Paul Doyle, the vice dean of College of Computer, Liu Yupeng, assistant dean of College of Computer. Both parties discussed the joint program, doctor cultivation, teacher/student exchange, scientific cooperation.
DIT is one of the largest universities in Ireland and it has six colleges: College of Engineering, College of Food and Beverage Management, College of Business, College of Applied Literature, College of Science, College of Construction. DIT has played a very important leading role in the educations in the fields of Business, Science and Technology. DIT focuses on the engineering, natural sciences, business administration, tourism, food and environment construction. It has advantages as well in the applied literature such as music, art and design, modern languages, legal research, and social sciences. DIT is one of the leading institute of higher education in Ireland.
The visit deepened links with universities in the United Kingdom and Ireland. Especially, it has clarified the important implementation details in the joint program with ARU and laid a more solid foundation with universities in UK and Ireland on the joint programs, high-level talent cultivation, student innovative projects.
