On the afternoon of November 19, Panayiotis Zaphiris, Rector of Cyprus University of Technology (CUT), led a delegation of four to visit our university for an exchange. Xu Jiangrong, Party Secretary of China Jiliang University Committee, warmly welcomed guests and attended the discussion session. The meeting was chaired by Vice President Wang Binrui, with representatives from the Office of International Exchange and Cooperation and the International Education School in attendance.
Xu Jiangrong extended a warm welcome to the delegation. In his speech, he highlighted that our university boasts a solid foundation in research and extensive teaching experience in fields such as metrology, standards development, precision measurement technology, and advanced instrument development. He emphasized that disciplines like Measurement and Control Technology and Instruments, Optoelectronic Information Science and Engineering, Automation, and Computer Science and Technology rank among the top both domestically and internationally. These strengths closely align with the relevant fields of CUT, creating significant opportunities for collaboration between the two universities.
Xu also reflected on the history of cooperation between the two universities. He noted that in December 2019, Andreas Anayiotos, then-Rector of CUT, led a delegation to visit our university and signed a memorandum of understanding. CUT is also a member of the University Consortium for Standardization Education and Research under the Belt and Road Initiative, which was initiated by our university. Building on this strong foundation, the renewal of the cooperation agreement will undoubtedly further enhance exchanges and collaboration between the two universities.
Panayiotis Zaphiris, Rector of Cyprus University of Technology, expressed his honor to visit China and engage with China Jiliang University during his participation in the 2024 World Chinese Conference and the celebration of the 20th anniversary of the Confucius Institute. He provided an overview of the development, disciplinary strengths, and international achievements of CUT and engaged in in-depth discussions on topics such as interdisciplinary collaboration, student exchange, and research projects. Zaphiris expressed his anticipation of building a long-term partnership with our university, with a focus on areas such as joint master's programs, short-term faculty and student exchanges, and regional innovation cooperation. He also expressed a desire to strengthen research collaboration in fields like satellite data analysis and underwater robotics, aiming to produce more high-level research outcomes. Through collaborative innovation, he hopes the two universities can jointly advance technological research and applications in smart manufacturing, mechanical engineering, and human-computer interaction.
During the meeting, the two universities renewed their Memorandum of Understanding, further defining key areas for future collaboration.
Cyprus University of Technology, established in December 2003, is one of the three public universities in the Republic of Cyprus. As a modern, open, and international institution, CUT is dedicated to providing high-quality education and research in the fields of economics, technology, and science.
This visit has created new opportunities for in-depth exchanges between Chinese and European universities in education and research. Leveraging this opportunity, CJLU will further strengthen its collaboration with Cyprus University of Technology, providing faculty and students with a higher-quality platform for international development and jointly advancing the partnership between the two universities to new heights.
