Mar 27, 2025

On the morning of March 25, a delegation of four from Libera Università Mediterranea "Jean Monnet" (LUM) in Bari, Italy, led by its Rector Antonello Garzoni and Director Giaky Degennaro, visited our university for academic exchange. The delegation was warmly received by university leaders, including Party Committee Secretary Xu Jiangrong and Vice President Wang Binrui, along with representatives from the International Office, College of International Education, College of Economics and Management, and School of Law & School of Intellectual Property.

Before the meeting, Xu Jiangrong warmly welcomed the delegation in Meeting Room A209 of the Mingde Building. The two sides engaged in preliminary discussions on talent cultivation and faculty-student exchanges and exchanged commemorative gifts. Xu noted that LUM serves as a benchmark institution in southern Italy for integrated research in economics, management, and law, boasting outstanding achievements in these fields. Given its strong alignment with the disciplines of the College of Economics and Management and the School of Law & School of Intellectual Property in CJLU, there is great potential for collaboration. He expressed his hope that this visit would serve as a catalyst for deepening mutual understanding, establishing a high-level academic exchange platform, promoting the sharing of educational resources, and advancing substantial and meaningful cooperation.

At the meeting held in Room A216, Vice President Wang Binrui welcomed the delegation and introduced CJLU's strengths and achievements in international collaboration. He noted that the two universities first connected at the China-Italy University Presidents' Dialogue at Peking University last November, and this visit further solidifies the ties between the two universities. He expressed hopes for closer faculty and student exchanges, deeper research cooperation, and enhanced cultural interactions. He also emphasized the potential for interdisciplinary integration, talent development, and collaboration in practical teaching and industry partnerships.

Rector Antonello provided an overview of LUM's educational philosophy, key academic strengths and campus facilities. Founded in 1995 and located in Bari, Puglia, the university comprises faculties of Economics, Law, Management, and Engineering. It is accredited by the Italian Ministry of Education and offers bachelor's, master's and doctoral programs. He expressed hopes that this visit would strengthen mutual understanding, foster practical collaboration in economics, management, law, and entrepreneurship, and further academic exchanges between Chinese and Italian universities.

During the meeting, representatives from the School of Law & and the College of Economics and Management engaged in in-depth discussions with the LUM delegation on areas of academic alignment. Both sides agreed to establish an inter-university partnership, explore opportunities for curriculum collaboration, faculty and student exchanges, and academic cooperation. As a first step, the two universities plan to sign a memorandum of understanding to facilitate the gradual implementation of joint degree programs and other cooperative initiatives.

This visit has fostered deeper mutual understanding and trust between the two universities, laying a solid foundation for future collaboration in academic research, talent development, and cultural exchange. CJLU looks forward to maintaining close ties with LUM, transforming shared intentions into concrete initiatives, and further advancing cooperation and innovation in Sino-Italian higher education.
