On November 13, Clarivate, a leading global academic evaluation organization, released the latest ESI (Essential Science Indicators) rankings. China Jiliang University’s Physics discipline has successfully entered the top 1% globally. Currently, seven of the university’s disciplines—Engineering, Physics, Chemistry, Materials Science, Environmental/Ecology, Agricultural Sciences, and Plant & Animal Science—are ranked in the global top 1% by ESI. The threshold for Engineering reached 2.33‰.

Metrology, which originated in the natural sciences and later extended to social sciences, is the scientific study of measurement and its applications. Many foundational theoretical studies in metrology fall within the scope of physics. In recent years, to advance original research and core technology innovation in metrology and related fields, CJLU has launched a series of action plans, including the Action Plan for Supporting the Development of National Advanced Measurement Systems (2022–2025), the Opinions on Further Promoting the Development of “Traditional Disciplines” and Accelerating the Cultivation of Double First-Class Programs, and the Action Plan for Advancing the Instrument Science and Technology Discipline. These initiatives aim to systematically promote basic theoretical research in metrology across key disciplines such as Instrument Science and Technology, Optical Engineering, and Control Science and Engineering.
