The College of Humanities and Foreign Languages (CHFL) boasts 2 majors on Zhejiang Province’s first-class major construction list: Teaching Chinese to Speakers of Other Languages (TCSOL), and Chinese Language and Literature.
The major of TCSOL was established in 2008. To meet the national demand for high-quality development of teacher education in the new era and that of Zhejiang Province for basically realizing modernization of education, it has begun to focus on teacher education since 2020. It is a mojor targeted at interdisciplinary integration of internationalization, standardization, practical training, and multi-dimensional interaction. Guided by the educational conceptions of “student centered, output orientation, and continual improvement”, it aims to cultivate interdisciplinary teachers with international visions, capable of cross-cultural communication, and qualified for Chinese teaching to both foreign students and Chinese students. TCSOL was listed on the first-class major construction list in 2022.
The major of Chinese Language and Literature aims to cultivate application-oriented professionals in such fields as literature, arts and news media, as well as be engaged in teaching and research , literary creation and criticism, news editing, network editing, publication, cultural creative industries and organization and management in enterprises and public institutions. Apart from cultivation of solid basic knowledge, it focuses on comprehensive skills in language use, practice, and students’ capacities for interpersonal coordination and cooperation. This major was listed on the first-class major construction list in 2021. Teachers in this major have a strong capacity for teaching and research, and have been granted many projects funded at national, ministerial and provincial levels. Teachers and students have won a good reputation for creation of novels, poems and drama, and for cultural promotion and development.
