British Institute of Engineering Technology Royal Registered Engineer and Senior Fellow Dick Bacon gave an academic lecture entitled "International Engineer Training and Certification Guide" at our university on October 25th. College of Mechanical and Electrical Engineering Vice President Yan Tianhong, Hangzhou Mechanical Engineering Institute of the Secretary-General Zhu Zhenggong, Director of Science and Technology Office Assistant Wang Binrui, graduate students from our university, and colleagues from the Hangzhou Institute of Mechanical Engineering attended the lecture.
Mr. Bacon has served as the international registered engineer interviewer and on the certification advisory staff. He is also the current manager of the IET career development department. IET offers a variety of specific training in career development for its members. Mr. Bacon is on international engineer certification system of several studies. He has 40 years work experience in electronic equipment design, system engineering, radar and satellite communications, and other fields of science and technology.
During the lecture, Mr. Bacon first introduced the reason for and the development of the Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET). In March 2006, the British Institute of Engineering Technology, the Institute of Electrical Engineers (IEE) and the British Application Engineers (IIE) combined to form IET. The worldwide IET society has more than 150,000 members representing 127 countries. It is the largest in Europe and the second largest international professional engineering society in the world.
Mr. Bacon continued in his lecture on to the topics of international engineer training and guidance for certification. He explained that there are several types of membership: IET Student Members, Ordinary Members (MIET), and Fellows. Fellows are outstanding senior professional and technical members who have made important achievements in science and engineering technology.
This lecture to the College of Electrical and Mechanical Engineering and the Mechanical Engineering Institute of Hangzhou City aimed to help students understand the international engineering society and the methods for training technical talent, to prepare for the qualification for engineering, to help the development of innovative scientific and technological personnel, and to improve the international competitiveness of the college in the field of engineering technology.
At the end of the lecture, Vice President Wang Binrui and Yan Tianhong had a discussion with Mr. Bacon, faculty members, and students about the IET international engineer training and certification system.
