Foreign students of CJLU won prizes in “Innovation & Entrepreneurship Competition for Overseas Talents 2019-Hangzhou”

In order to fully demonstrate achievements of education for foreign students and deepen technological and cultural communication among foreign students in China, “Innovation & Entrepreneurship Competition for Overseas Talents 2019-Hangzhou” Special Session for Foreign Students in China and Innovation & Entrepreneurship Competition for Foreign Students in China-Zhejiang were held in Cross-border E-commerce Town in Hangzhou from 1 to 2 June. The competition was jointly hosted by Department of Education of Zhejiang Province, Hangzhou Municipal Committee of the Communist Party of China, and Hangzhou Municipal People’s Government. 163 projects were submitted by foreign students from over 80 countries and regions who are now studying at CJLU, Tsinghua University, Zhejiang University, Donghua University, Jiangsu University, Shenzhen University, Zhejiang Sci-Tech University and Zhejiang University of Technology, etc. Two projects from CJLU won the Third Prize and Winning Award respectively.

The project named Angel Safeguard---Automatic Classification System of Optical Radiation Safety in Children’s Toys led by Sakuna Caterina Brown Wilo, an American student majoring in Business Administration at CJLU won the Third Prize. This project was jointly guided by Li Liang from College of Optical and Electronic Technology and Wang Lu from College of International Education. After presentation and oral defense, the team members were interviewed by Zhejiang News TV and Hangzhou TV.

The project named Hangzhou Densden Oral Technology Co, Ltd. led by Izuchukwu Charles Ekweariri, a Nigerian student majoring in International Economy and Trade at CJLU won Winning Award. This project was jointly guided by Yang Qinghua from College of Materials Science and Engineering and Fan Jiayu from College of International Education.

In recent years, universities in China pay more and more attention to training and guidance in innovation and entrepreneurship of foreign students in China. This is the first time that CJLU has organized foreign students to participate in this kind of competition on a relatively large scale. This competition further inspires enthusiasm for innovation and entrepreneurship of foreign students at CJLU, and it also establishes a platform of entrepreneurship for students who are willing to start their own businesses. College of International Education will take this competition as a starting point and make persistent efforts to establish more and better platforms of innovation and entrepreneurship for foreign students and improve talents training quality of international education.
