In order to promote the integrated development of higher education in the Yangtze River Delta, the Yangtze River Delta Alliance of High-level Distinctive Universities was established at China Jiliang University (CJLU) on December 26, 2020.
The ceremony was attended by leaders and guests including Yu Yongming, deputy director-general of Zhejiang Provincial Education Department; Wei Xianwen, president of Anhui University of Technology; Meng Xiangrui, vice president of Anhui University of Science &Technology; Lv Jinhai, vice president of Hangzhou Dianzi University; Ning Xiaoming, president of Jiangsu Ocean University; Xu Junhua, deputy secretary of the CPC committee of Jiangsu University of Science and Technology; Liu Wanghong, president of Nanjing Audit University; Li Beiqun, president of Nanjing University of Information Science & Technology; Huang Dongmei, vice president of Shanghai University of Electric Power; Yue Long, vice president of Shanghai Customs College; Zhang Qingkui, secretary of the CPC committee of Suzhou University of Science and Technology; Xu Shiyuan, vice president of Zhejiang Ocean University; Tao Weihua, deputy secretary of the CPC committee of Zhejiang Sci-Tech University; Zhang Tuqiao, secretary of the CPC committee of CJLU and Song Mingshun, president of CJLU. The ceremony was hosted by Wang Dizhao, vice president of CJLU.
The Alliance was initiated by CJLU, jointly with Anhui University of Technology, Anhui University of Science & Technology, Hangzhou Dianzi University, Jiangsu Ocean University, Jiangsu University of Science and Technology, Suzhou University of Science and Technology, Nanjing Audit University, Nanjing University of Information Science & Technology, Shanghai University of Electric Power, Shanghai Customs College, Zhejiang Ocean University, and Zhejiang Sci-Tech University.
Representatives from the 13 founding universities signed the Cooperation Agreement for the Yangtze River Delta Alliance of High-level Distinctive Universities and jointly issued the Hangzhou Declaration of the Yangtze River Delta Alliance of High-level Distinctive Universities, jointly discussing cooperation programs, building cooperation platforms and sharing the fruits of cooperation. Universities of the Alliance will carry out cooperation on university development strategy research, construction and sharing of research platforms, talents cultivation, social service and so on, contributing to modernization of higher education as well as economic and social development of the Yangtze River Delta region.
Yu Yongming pointed out that education plays a fundamental and leading role in the integrated development of the Yangtze River Delta region. The establishment of the Yangtze River Delta Alliance of High-level Distinctive Universities is of great significance in promoting the cross-regional collaboration between industries and universities.
Zhang Tuqiao stated that as a founding member of the Alliance, CJLU will adhere to distinctive development, deepen cooperation and exchanges with universities in the Alliance, contributing to the construction of a cooperation platform for resources sharing, mutual learning and synergetic development.
Professor Song Mingshun delivered a keynote speech entitled Exploration and Practice of CJLU Characteristics-based Development of “One Body, Two Wings and Three Drivers”.
Professor Li Beiqun delivered a keynote speech entitled Heritage, Innovation and Vision---- Exploration of Modern University Governance by Nanjing University of Information Science & Technology.
Professor Wei Xianwen introduced Anhui University of Technology’s development based on its own characteristics through a keynote speech entitled Focusing on Engineering, Serving the Industry, Local Integration and Innovative Development.
In the afternoon, members of the Alliance Council exchanged experience of running schools with different sector characteristics.
On December 25, the founding universities deliberated and approved the Alliance Charter, and established the first Council and Secretariat. President Song Mingshun was elected chair of the first Council of the Alliance, and the Secretariat is based at CJLU.
With the establishment of the Alliance, universities in the Alliance will carry out various forms of exchanges and cooperation such as holding seminar on distinctive disciplines, establishing science and innovation center, encouraging visiting scholars, developing joint bachelor and master programs, establishing the sharing mechanism for large equipment and library resources, and holding various activities for students on scientific & technological innovation as well as recreations and sports.
