Representatives from the University of Canterbury and Massey University Visit Our University

On the afternoon of May 22, a delegation from the University of Canterbury, including Will Shannon, Head of International Affairs at the Business School, and Tracy Zhai, Director of International Affairs, visited our university. The delegation was warmly welcomed by Wang Jianqi, Director of the International Exchange and Cooperation Office, Yu Xiao, Associate Dean of the College of Economics and Management, along with relevant department heads. The meeting took place in Room A216 of Mingde Building.

During the meeting, both parties introduced their respective universities' histories, academic programs, and course structures. The discussions focused on potential collaboration in the business field, including faculty and student exchanges, short-term visits during winter and summer breaks, semester/year-long exchanges, "3+1+1" undergraduate-master's programs, and "1+1+1" dual master's programs. The attendees noted that the universities' academic programs are highly complementary, offering strong collaboration advantages and significant potential. Particularly under the backdrop of digital transformation, there is room to explore additional cooperative opportunities.

After the meeting, the delegation visited the College of Economics and Management and attended a project exchange session. Will Shannon provided a detailed introduction to the degree programs and short-term study opportunities designed for international students at the University of Canterbury. He also highlighted New Zealand's natural beauty and cultural environment, showcasing successful examples and extensive experience in promoting international student exchanges. The students showed strong interest and engaged actively in the discussion.

The University of Canterbury, established in 1873, is located in Christchurch, the largest city on New Zealand's South Island. It comprises seven faculties: Arts, Business, Law, Education, Health Sciences, Engineering, and Science. The Business School is among the top 1% globally, holding the prestigious Triple Crown accreditation. In the QS World University Rankings for 2024, the University of Canterbury is ranked 256th.

On the morning of May 23, Kerry Taylor, Associate Dean of the College of Humanities and Social Sciences at Massey University, and Ann Wu, International Affairs Advisor, visited our university for an exchange. Wang Jianqi, Director of the International Exchange and Cooperation Office, Qiu Gaoxing, Dean of the College of Humanities and Foreign Languages and relevant faculty members held a discussion with the guests in Room A216 of Mingde Building.

During the meeting, both parties provided an overview the history, faculty, and academic programs of each universities. It was agreed that there is strong potential for collaboration in areas such as applied linguistics, international Chinese education, and public affairs management. The discussions highlighted that inter-institutional exchanges could offer more learning opportunities for students from both universities. Both sides will maintain close contact and delve deeper into specific collaboration projects. After the meeting, the guests visited the Yifu Metrology Museum. This visit marked the first time representatives from Massey University have come to our university. Initial cooperation intentions were established, laying the groundwork for future exchanges and collaboration.

Massey University, established in 1926, has campuses in Palmerston North, Auckland, and Wellington, with over 30,000 students. Its academic programs cover a wide range of fields including business, humanities and social sciences, arts and design, and natural sciences and engineering. In the 2024 QS World University Rankings, Massey University is ranked 239th.
